A New Image For My Home Aqua
07.10.05 (4:49 pm)   [edit]
Well, this saturday was a very productive one. :) Despite playing DotA till 2am last nite, i woke up at around 10am this morning. After making myself a cup of coffee, and Dan a cup of Choc Horlicks, and some net surfing, we both started making a new look for our home aquarium at around 11am.

Well, for those of you who has seen my home aqua b4, you should know that the water is always brownish and yellowish. That is because of the 3 huge logs i put in the water. With time, it rots, thus making the water dirty. Live plants is another headache. A lot of maintainance need to be done. Trimming, feterlizing, picking up dead leaves, etc. Anyway, i discussed with Dan, and we've decided to put all these into a stop, and so, we went shopping at Chew Tien Yang, the biggest pet shop in South East Asia, for an image remake on our home aqua. Anyway, you can see some angles of my old aqua here, here, here, though they are not that clear in showing the whole picture of it.

Well. We started of sucking the water out bit by bit. Slowly that we noticed it wasn't gonna work like that, and thus, Dan seggested that we pull out all the fishes and give the WHOLE aquarium a thorough clean-up. It was tough job cleaning up all the shit and droppings of the fishes for the past 6 months. :p We flipped around the black sand, and whoooosh all the dirt and shit all came floating and flying around the aqua. There seemed to be no ending in it.

We got all the rocks out from the aqua as well. I pulled out the filtering foam and washed it. Dan helped me in brushing off the algea from the rocks. It took us around 2 hours to get the whole box clean.

The interesting part cames in when we started to decorate and invent a new outlook for our aquarium. It was the brainchild of Dan, and nonetheless, she was the mastermind of the whole new design of this outlook :)

First, we pushed all the black sand towards the left and right side, leaving a cleavage in the middle part whereby we pours in the colourful blue and light blue tiny rocks there, making it look like a "drain" feeling.

Next, the huge rocks (which i brought back from my everyday jogging session opposite my house) we being put in place. The huge vintage-look pots are being nicely located at the right and left side. After getting the 2 artificial plants planted, the final touch up came in with Dan placing the cute, little transparent colourful corals along the shore.

Well, it was hardwork that really paid off. After all the hard work, we both felt a sense of satisfaction admiring at the product that we've came out with. Both of us think that the aquarium was a bit too spacious, and we are planning to get in more accesories for the aquarium this weekend. :)

This is the view from the entrance. See? Theres a huge vintage-look pot on the right side, and a small one at the left. The middle stands an artificial log, with holes for fishes to swim around.2 artificial plants on each side, and a few huge rocks lying on the shore. :)

This is the side view, a better perspective on the small pot.See the bottom right? That's one of the colourfil transparent corals Dan bought :p

OK. This is the back view. The view seens from the TV living room sofa. Notice the middle lane? The light and dark blue tiny rocks form a nice cleavage(drainage), creating a sense of a river parting 2 continents. Cool yeah ? ;)
