| A New Image For My Home Aqua |
| 07.10.05 (4:49 pm) [edit] |
Well, this saturday was a very productive one. :) Despite playing DotA till 2am last nite, i woke up at around 10am this morning. After making myself a cup of coffee, and Dan a cup of Choc Horlicks, and some net surfing, we both started making a new look for our home aquarium at around 11am.
Well, for those of you who has seen my home aqua b4, you should know that the water is always brownish and yellowish. That is because of the 3 huge logs i put in the water. With time, it rots, thus making the water dirty. Live plants is another headache. A lot of maintainance need to be done. Trimming, feterlizing, picking up dead leaves, etc. Anyway, i discussed with Dan, and we've decided to put all these into a stop, and so, we went shopping at Chew Tien Yang, the biggest pet shop in South East Asia, for an image remake on our home aqua. Anyway, you can see some angles of my old aqua here, here, here, though they are not that clear in showing the whole picture of it.
Well. We started of sucking the water out bit by bit. Slowly that we noticed it wasn't gonna work like that, and thus, Dan seggested that we pull out all the fishes and give the WHOLE aquarium a thorough clean-up. It was tough job cleaning up all the shit and droppings of the fishes for the past 6 months. :p We flipped around the black sand, and whoooosh all the dirt and shit all came floating and flying around the aqua. There seemed to be no ending in it.
We got all the rocks out from the aqua as well. I pulled out the filtering foam and washed it. Dan helped me in brushing off the algea from the rocks. It took us around 2 hours to get the whole box clean.
The interesting part cames in when we started to decorate and invent a new outlook for our aquarium. It was the brainchild of Dan, and nonetheless, she was the mastermind of the whole new design of this outlook :)
First, we pushed all the black sand towards the left and right side, leaving a cleavage in the middle part whereby we pours in the colourful blue and light blue tiny rocks there, making it look like a "drain" feeling.
Next, the huge rocks (which i brought back from my everyday jogging session opposite my house) we being put in place. The huge vintage-look pots are being nicely located at the right and left side. After getting the 2 artificial plants planted, the final touch up came in with Dan placing the cute, little transparent colourful corals along the shore.
Well, it was hardwork that really paid off. After all the hard work, we both felt a sense of satisfaction admiring at the product that we've came out with. Both of us think that the aquarium was a bit too spacious, and we are planning to get in more accesories for the aquarium this weekend. :)
This is the view from the entrance. See? Theres a huge vintage-look pot on the right side, and a small one at the left. The middle stands an artificial log, with holes for fishes to swim around.2 artificial plants on each side, and a few huge rocks lying on the shore. :)
This is the side view, a better perspective on the small pot.See the bottom right? That's one of the colourfil transparent corals Dan bought :p
OK. This is the back view. The view seens from the TV living room sofa. Notice the middle lane? The light and dark blue tiny rocks form a nice cleavage(drainage), creating a sense of a river parting 2 continents. Cool yeah ? ;)

| 2005 Focal Review |
| 07.07.05 (9:22 pm) [edit] |
|
Just received my 2005 focal review yesterday after a come back from a 2 days leave. I reached office at around 8:30 am. Making myself a cup of hot white coffee, and started running thru all the 670+ emails I’ve received for the past 2 days. I came across an email which was sent out by my boss to all members in my team. The content was somehow heart striking. It says that we have 2 promotion this year, and they are so-and-so. Of course my name wasn’t there.
It was a hard time for me to accept it. All these while I’ve been waiting and was so confident of getting a promotion to Senior this year. My boss even hinted me several times during our 1-on-1 that he will show some returns in my hardwork. Anyway, to say that I was depressed was somewhat an understatement during the hour. It was like I’ve been waiting for ages before my boss invited me into a meeting room for 1-on-1 at around 11am.
Anyway, we had a open-hearted discussion. He told me that he they actually did propose on my promotion this year, just that the top management in S.J. turned it down. I somehow buy what he says. He asked of my expectation for this year’s increment, and I told him that I expected something around the same number as last year, around w%, or maybe a bit more, x%. Well, y% was something I never expected. Anyway, that was an acceptable number J The next thing was stock option. Before showing me the numbers, he forewarned me to expect a little reduction in numbers as top management has by far reducing all stocks options for this year by around 70%. Well, my number was xxx. To be honest, I somehow didn’t feel anything about the options. Anyway, the whole session seen my boss kept on telling me to be patient, patient and patient as things will get better next year, he PROMISE. As a guy with no initiation of negotiating with superiors, and one that doesn’t like to discuss much on facts that have been laid down, I showed him my acceptance, and that’s all I can say.
Anyway, the 1-on-1 session ended within 30minutes, just in time for lunch. While having lunch with Mut and Pimp, and even after that, my mind kept on telling me to overcome the sadness, but I just somehow needed more time. Anyway, it’s all about your mind playing tricks with you. I reread the focal review carefully, and more in depth. In the Strength & Weaknesses page, it says that my weaknesses are “Meeting commitments and follow thru”. I somehow think that it’s quite true. As a support team member, we have tons of scripts to maintain. When I am into something, and when some guys from other department kept on calling me on the phone, I will always shut them down, and reject answering the phone call. Yeah. That’s me. I think I’ve not doing my job up to my responsibility level. The other 2 on my team who got promoted wasn’t actually having an edge on my on their skills or whatsoever, but when it comes to job responsibility and follow ups on supports, I dearly respect their achievement on this part.
Anyway, after getting my mind set, tricks are gone from my mind. I felt anew again. Refreshed and Reborn. I sincerely congratulated my 2 counterparts who got promoted, and set a new target for myself, to be a better support team member, and be more attentive to customers’ request and complains. I’ve been always an optimistic guy (as what others always say that is how I perceived myself), and well, I believe I am truly are J Hahahahaha :D

| 07.06.05 (10:24 pm) [edit] |

The past 2 days have been quite an interesting and fulfilling holiday for me. As a avid photographer since his teenage years, his 2 sons joined in his footage. Not wanting to be left behind, I took up photography as well. Hahahaha. And so here we stand, me taking 2 days annual leave accompanying my uncle (Ee Cheong) and his youngest son, Simon for a 2 days photography session.
The first day saw us visiting 3 places - Khoo Kongsi in the morning (which we have to pay some waramashit RM5 / head) - Coastal highway (trying our luck on Penang Bridge) - opposite Inventec (picking on some boats pix)

| Grandpa's Bday Buffet Dinner at ParkRoyal |
| 07.03.05 (11:51 pm) [edit] |
|
Last Saturday was a big day for all our family members. My grandpa celebrated his 89th birthday. It's a pity that Anthony and Carmen couldn't make it. They just went back to HK after a one week stay in Penang last week. Anyway, let's get on the events, shall we ? ;)
Dinner starts at 7pm. As host, Bee Ee insisted that we should be there early, and so, off we go, in 2 cars. One in Papa's car, with mama, me, kokidi, Dan and Yuli. The other car's driver was See Ee, with Bee Ee, Ee Cheong, Grandpa, and Simon. We reached there as expected, at around 6:30pm. The hotel management was kind enough to have the courtesy of keep a parking lot which is nearest to the entrence so as to minimise the walking distance for my grandpa. That was sweet and caring :)
We were given a VIP room with air-conned. And without much hesitation, i quickly opened my bag and start to capture the atmosphere in that room before all the guests arrive.

It was nice to know that the hotel management really do care and took the initiative to make the room nice full with balloons. For that i really appreciate their initiative.
Me, Dan and Kokidi went to beach together as it was still early. The sun was stunningly nice, and so, we took the opportunity to snap as much as we could. I saw s family sitting by the beach, relaxing ......
...... And there were a lot of activities and water sports took place. One guy happened to came up to me, asking me whether was i interested in this parachutting, i politely rejected, but asked for the price. It was RM70. Not too expensive at all, taking the price of RM50 5 years ago :)
There was also horse riding services available there ......
Not long after that, Simon joined us in the snapping activities too :p
We have lots of fun snapping each other's pictures. Here're some of the better ones after some filtering ......
Me and Dan standing in Bollywood Style, Taken by Kokidi
Simon, Kokidi and Me, Taken by Dan.
Time flies, and it was time to attend to our guests. We finally decided to hit the sack, and this nice sunset picture was taken by Dan.
Most of the guests already arrived. Grandpa was sitting in the same table with his 3 daughters. Here we see Grandpa whispering with Bee Ee ......
...... and a faraway niece of mine, sending her own-made bday card to grandpa, while grandpa giving out angpow to her. How sweet :) ......
Dinner finally started. Everyone was busy with they food. My favourite food would have been this :p Salmon Sashimi ...... I like most the feeling of getting the wasabi strikes up all the way to your nasal, up to your brain. Very high .... hahahhaha :D
Not long after the dinner started, 3 entertainers entered our room to give some light entertainment and birthday wishing to the birthday boy :) Upon knowing my grandpa's origin, they volunteered to sing some Indonesian songs, which covered Buring Kakak Tua etc......
Burung Kakak Tua Menjung di Jendela Nenek Sudah Tua Giginya Tinggal Dua Letrum, Letrum, Le Kuku Lala Letrum, Letrum, Le Kuku Lala Letrum, Letrum, Le Kuku Lala Burung Kakak Tua. It's good to see grandpa smile. He really enjoys it. :)
Although i enjoyed the food there very much, still, occationally, i jumped from places to places, trying Simon to cover the whole event of the evening as much as possible. Here's what I've got:-
Grandpa enjoying his meal .....
Grandpa's favourite chicken wing ...hehehe :p
While everyone has stopped eating, my mom was still going strong with desserts. Hahahaha. She loves desserts.
Anyway, the dinner ended with a grand finale. Everyone was happy. And i just wish that we could celebrate my grandpa's birthday till the day my children get married :)
